    Published in October 2003

More than 2,000 years ago Emperor Shi Huang decided to join together lots of smaller walls in the northern part of China to make what would become the Great Wall of China. Over the following 1,500 years modifications were made to the wall and then around 500 years ago, in the Ming Dynasty, the wall was substantially reinforced. What remains of the wall today is just a shadow of its former glory, but it is still a breathtaking testament to the engineering prowess of the ancient Chinese.
