Unit 5

One of the topics covered in this unit is Marriage. If your students want to find out more about the traditions in the unit then get them to check out this site. Set them a task by getting them to write down five questions they’d like answered, then use the website to try and find the answers to their questions.
Unit 6
http://www.tombraider.com/
An interactive site with sound brought to you by Eidos, the creators of Lara Croft. Find out for yourself why people enjoy playing adventure computer games, read up on Lara Croft and check out the reviews.
Use the biographical information on Lara http://www.laracroft.co.uk/front.html and create your own quiz. Alternatively, create your own computer hero using the same format as found here. You should also be able to check the answers to the quiz on page 56 – can you find any differences between the website and the taped interview?
Unit 8

Page 73 has an activity on holiday postcards. Why not really send a friend a postcard? Ask your students to choose from the ones displayed on these three pages and imagine they are on holiday there. They can write their postcard and then send it to a friend. If they’d like, they can use the web to find out more about the place they’ve chosen.

The title of unit 8 is Escape. If you were going to escape, where would you go? Here you can read up about two Americans, Julie and Scott, who decided to escape and see the world. They start of with a quote: "The world is a book, of which those who stay in one place read only one page"--St. Augustine. What do your students think? Get your students surfing through these pages and deciding where they would escape to and what they would do there.

Unit 8 also looks at travel from other angles in Journey from Hell on page 75 and Insider’s Guide on page 76. This site has lots of material that could be used in a variety of ways. Why not take the places mentioned on page 76 and see how much more information your students can find? Alternatively, put them in groups, ask them to choose a place, and then get them to plan their holiday. The Travel Talk feature is also useful – post messages and receive replies. You could even ask people for their Journey from Hell.
